This morning I am headed to the dentist to have a compacted wisdom tooth removed. I am terrified of dentists, mainly because they are unable to deaden my mouth. It has something to do with the nerves. That said, they will be knocking me out and giving me drugs for pain afterwards. So you may not want any life advice from me for a few days.
That leads to this: Joe Wild will be teaching my Wednesday class. He will be answering the question of a loving God allowing killing, war, and even genocide. The question came up in I Samuel 15 when Yahweh ordered the annihilation of the Amalekites – men, women, children, infants and animals. How do we wrap our heads around that? It should be an interesting discussion. Wednesday night at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
Yesterday we began a new series of lessons dealing with guilt and forgiveness. We should grieve when we sin but we should not fear God. Confess your sins but don’t fear death. God wants us to enjoy our salvation. If you were unable to be present you can view Sunday’s sermon on the church Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Vero-Beach-Church-of-Christ-114896895200113/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel or view it on our website when the video is uploaded http://www.verobeachchurchofchrist.org/ (Click on either link). This week we will take a closer look at God in the flesh – the Messiah. Jesus came to speak and demonstrate grace.
Last night Jason and Suzanne hosted the 6th-8th graders in their home for some fun and fellowship. When I walked in they were a very animated group. These are great memories that will go with these kids for a long time.
Sunday will start back our Care Group luncheons. This month, those whose last names begin with I-M, will meet in the Fellowship Hall following worship. We ask each family to bring enough food for your family and a little extra. We not only want to use this as an opportunity for these groups to get to know each other better, but also to invite any visitors who would be willing to stay.
This Sunday evening is our monthly fellowship at 5 pm. Along with an activity, we will celebrate February birthdays. Since the Super Bowl is the same night, wear your favorite jersey or sports team. It should be a good night.
Mark your calendar: February 22nd we are bringing back the Chili Cook-off. So start looking for that winning chili recipe. More details to come.
Well, I need to get ready for my (gulp) wisdom tooth extraction. Hopefully I will see you all Wednesday night, if not, Sunday morning.
